We Need A Better Way!

As an Indie author with several books published in e-book, paperback and audiobook formats, I can tell you that the biggest challenge I face is advertising my work.

I've come to grips with the fact that not everyone will like my stories (a lot do, but some don't!), and I've resigned myself to spending money to design my book covers, edit/proof-read the stories before publishing and paying for good voice talent. These are all necessary things that any author needs to do.

The one thing that I just cannot accept though is the high cost of advertising my books. Some book sites are effective, but if you don't have a 4+ figure budget, you won't get many books into readers hands. The world of self-published books is dominated by only 1 or 2 players, and even though formats may be different, some of these companies are owned by the same big company (you know who I am talking about!).

As Indie authors we have been given the opportunity to write and publish works that we believe in. The self-publishing platforms we enjoy today did not exist several years ago, and that's great. BUT, trying to outbid other authors or even large traditional publishers for ad placements, or paying for high prices for every click on your ad is crazy. Most Indie authors cannot command high prices for their books nor are readers willing to pay high prices for them. Our production costs remain the same (or increase depending on the complexity of the work being done), but we really don't control the selling prices. Even when we do sell a book, the big company that "allowed" us to publish it in the first place takes the lion's share of the profit and leaves us with very little to show for our work.

So why are we paying the same big multination companies high advertising fees?

The main goal of all authors is to get our books in the hands of readers. Those that are looking to get rich are most likely better off getting a full-time, or even part-time job - there's not a lot of money in writing unless you are one of the very few lucky writers (think J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, etc.). The rest of us can - and should - focus on entertaining readers while keeping our production and advertising costs low.

This is why I decided to start "Indie Book World", a website where Indie authors can show their books for free - that's right - FREE! The idea of the website is to give readers a place to go where they can find only Indie author titles, and it won't cost the readers anything either - I am absorbing the cost of the website myself, which is minimal.

So, if you are tired of paying high advertising fees to big companies, or if you just want to place your books in another place where readers can find them, use the contact form and email me your book details. It will cost you nothing, it will increase your exposure to readers and you may just sell a few more books in the process!

We Have Readers!

Indie Book World has been up and running now for a little over a month. We now have several authors who have posted their Indie books on the site, but so no additional audiobooks. Interestingly, we ha
